You can start by slowly introducing them to the community. Such as asking them out to lunch. Have a casual lunch together at the community but don’t set any expectations for either of you. Keep it casual. Then, wait a few weeks and go back a second time for lunch and walk around the community. If your loved one with dementia is feeling comfortable with the community, go back again and have them participate in a program or activity. Having them get familiar with the community before talking about moving will give them a better feeling of the environment.

Having your loved one with dementia experience the community before moving can help make the transition process easier.
