Your loved one with dementia has been receiving in-home care but the progression of their disease has worsened. You’re overwhelmed with making the decision on what to do next. Where do you start? When you begin searching for a memory care community, start by speaking with friends and family. Ask them about their experience with different communities. Then, make a list of the communities you want to visit.

Visit the communities alone for the first time, and gather the information for yourself. Bringing your loved one with dementia along on the tours for the first time can be overwhelming for them – no matter what stage of dementia they are in. After you’ve found a community that you think would be a great fit, visit the community again with your loved one by eating lunch there or attending a program that they may be interested in.

When deciding on the right community, keep your loved one with dementia involved in the process. You want them to feel welcomed and excited about their new home.
