It’s important to be prepared when touring different memory care communities. Each community offers their own unique services, and you want to find the one that best fits your loved one with dementia’s needs. Use a checklist and be prepared with questions to ask.

Here are some questions to ask memory care communities when touring:

  • How do they make the community safe and secure?
  • What are some ways staff members provide compassionate care?
  • What are the community’s policies and procedures? For example, what would be a reason for someone to have to move out?
  • Are residents able to live their until end of life care?
  • What are some of the activities offered? How are the activities for residents chosen?
  • Is there a salon in the community that residents can use?
  • What is the dining program like? How is the food prepared? Do residents have a choice in what food they eat?
By talking with staff members at the memory care communities, you can gain a better understanding of the quality of care your loved one will receive.
